Remote Access lets you reach your RVAltCtrl device through my.rvaltctrl.com from outside your RV's own Wi-Fi network, whether you're across the campground or across the country. Access is controlled entirely by tokens you create yourself, from Settings → Remote Access.
Creating a token
Give the token a Name (e.g. "Spouse's phone" or "Support"), a name of your own choosing to help you tell tokens apart later, and choose how long it should last from the Expires in dropdown (1, 7, 30, or 90 days). Tap Generate Token and it's created immediately.
Why tokens are safe
A token can only ever be generated while you're connected to the device's own Wi-Fi network, standing right there at the RV, never remotely. That means nobody can create a way into your RV from outside your network; only someone with physical access to your RV's own Wi-Fi can do that. Once a token exists, though, it works like a password: whoever holds it can use it to connect remotely until it expires or you revoke it, so only share a token with people you actually know and trust.
Why a token is only shown once
For the same reason, a token is displayed only once, right when you create it. It can't be retrieved or viewed again afterward, RVAltCtrl doesn't keep a copy you could look up later. Copy it, save it, or share it with support immediately using the three options below, before you leave the page.
The three ways to use a new token
- Copy Token copies it to the clipboard of the phone, tablet, or laptop you're using to view this page, so you can paste it somewhere safe like a password manager or secure note, or send it yourself to whoever you want to have remote access.
- Save for My Remote Use opens the RVAltCtrl Portal at my.rvaltctrl.com in a new tab, where you can save the token in that browser for your own future remote use. From there you can also generate a QR code to transfer the token to another phone, tablet, or computer, letting that device scan it in and save it too.
- Share with Support sends the token directly to the RVAltCtrl support team, so you never have to read it aloud or paste it anywhere yourself. Only use this when you actually want support to have remote access.
Adding a saved token to the portal
Once a token is saved in a browser through Save for My Remote Use (or scanned in from a QR code), that browser can reach your device from my.rvaltctrl.com any time, without needing to be on the RV's Wi-Fi network, for as long as the token stays valid.
Expiration
Every token expires on its own, after the 1, 7, 30, or 90 days you chose when creating it. The Existing Tokens list on the Remote Access page shows each token's expiration date, and marks it Expired once that date passes; an expired token no longer grants access, whether or not you ever revoke it.
Revoking a token
You can revoke any token at any time from the Existing Tokens list, which immediately cuts off remote access for anyone using it, even before it would otherwise expire. If a token ever gets shared with someone you didn't intend, or you're simply not sure who might have it anymore, revoke it right away. It costs you nothing to create a fresh one.
